Shaolin Temple is a world-famous Buddhist monastery and the cradle of Chinese Kung Fu, especially the exterior Kung Fu. Shaolin Temple located at the south foot of Songshan Mountain, Dengfeng, Zhengzhou City. Songshan Mountain and Shaolin Temple together was written into the list of World Cultural Heritage Sites in 2010. The great architectural group of the temple makes itself sacred and magnificent. Shaolin Temple boasts the origin of Chinese Zen and the No.1 Buddhist temple in the world. Originally built in 495 AD as a Zen monastery, Master Dharma arrived in Shaolin Temple in 527 AD, and taught the Zen here. It is also the center of Wulin and Jianghu, and the holy land of learning the Kung Fu.

Pagoda Forest is located in the west side of Shaolin Temple, and covers a total area approximately 20,000 square kilometers. It is also the largest pagoda forest of China with more than 230 pagodas, all of which were built respectively in Tang, Song, Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. These pagodas are actually the cemeteries of great monks of different generations in Shaolin Temple. In 1996, it was listed as the site under the state’s protection.

Kungfu Show is the best way to view the real performance of Shaolin Kung Fu and its power. The Shaolin Kung Fu Show Theatre is located not far from the main entrance. There are 5 fixed daily performances at the theatre. The kung fu show lasts half hour including a few minutes’ interaction on the part of the visitors and the actors. The Kung Fu Show is performed by the professional performance team from Shaolin Wushu School. Shaolin Kung fu is the most influential martial arts schools in China. In the less than half performance, you will see “Shaolin Boxing” and “Shaolin Stick” typical of Shaolin Kung fu. The most impressing performance is Tongzigong. “Tongzigong” literally means “children’s kung fu”, a form of qigong exercise stressing flexibility, part of the curriculum of Shaolin Kung Fu. It is learned at very early and must be practiced before the body becomes matured.

After that, we will driver to Luoyang, and stay overnight at the hotel of Luoyang

Day 2. Travel in Luoyang (B/L/-)
Accommodation - Xian City Hotel (3 stars)

After breakfast, your first destination in Luoyang is the Longmen Grottoes. Longmen Grottoes is one of Chinese stone carving art treasures and one of China’s three most famous grottoes. In 2000, it was written into the list of UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Sites. The whole construction lasted over 400 years from Wei Dynasty to Song Dynasty. The total south-north length is up to 1 kilometer. Today, there are 2,345 sites preserved well, and in total over 100,000 Buddha statues and 2,800 inscriptions are left. The essence of the collection is Long Men Er Shi Pin (龙门二十品), the classics of calligraphic arts in Wei period. Longmen grottoes experienced a long period of China and witnessed the change of ancient China’s society. It largely showcases the artistic change of China.

Then, we move to the White Horse Temple. It is the oldest Buddhist temple of China built in 68 AD, in East Han Dynasty. Considered as the first Buddhist temple of China, White Horse Temple was built due to a special dream of Emperor Pingdi in East Han Dynasty, and he dreamed of a grand gold man with a white horse carrying a huge package of sutras walking towards him. The dream readers told him that the gold man was the Buddha from West Paradise. The ancient sites in temple are mostly from Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. The well-preserved the statues of Buddha, 18 arhats and 2 Buddha guards created in Yuan Dynasty are valued very much. In 1961, it was accepted as the site of the first batch of cultural sites under the state’s protection

Finally, we will take a late afternoon train to Xi'an. The local guide of Xian will meet you at the train station, and then transfer to your hotel in downtown area.

Day 3. Travel in Xian (B/L/-)
Accommodation - Xian City Hotel (3 stars)

After breakfast, the first travel destination is Shaanxi Province History Museum. Shaanxi History Museum is one of top four comprehensive museums in China. Originally built in 1983, it is the most important site to showcase the ancient glory of China in history and culture.

Then, take a visit to Ancient City Wall. Xian ancient city wall located in downtown area with a total length of 13.74 kilometers has four huge city gates – Changle Gate, West Anding Gate, South Yongning Gate and North Anyuan Gate. It was built on the basis of the imperial town of Tang Dynasty. The building aims at defense system construction. The width of the wall is larger than the height. On the wall, the bus driving and troop exercise can be held. The current city wall was built in the early Ming Dynasty (1374-1378), up to today, has a history over 600 years. It is one of the most famous city walls in China and the best preserved ancient city wall of China.

After taking lunch, visit to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda, an enormous building comprising 7 floors and surrounded by beautiful gardens was originally built in AD652 during the reign of Emperor Gaozong (During Tang Dynasty 628-683). It's main function was to collect Buddhist materials taken from India by Xuanzang and to translate the Sanskrit into Chinese. The pagoda is an architectural gem, built with layers of bricks but without any cement. The original structure at 60m high and with only 5 storeys was finished in 652 A.D. Between 701-704 AD, mainly because of structural weakness in the earth-cored pagoda, a new 10-storey pagoda was built. However, between the wars of the coming years and a massive earthquake in 1556, this structure was reduced almost to ruins. As a result, some revisions were made during the Ming Dynasty to produce the 7-storey, 64 meter-tall structure we see today.

Then, we head to the Drum Tower. The Drum Tower, located in the heart of Xian, along with the Bell Tower is a symbol of the city. Built in 1380 during the early Ming Dynasty, it stands towering above the city center and offers incredible view of Xi'an. The Drum Tower got its name from the huge drum located within the building. In contrast to the Bell Tower, where bell was stricken at dawn, drum was beat at sunset to indicate the end of the day.

Finally, we go to Muslim Street. Located in the center of Xian City, the Muslim Street is a fantastic place to wander. All shops and restaurants in the street are operated by Muslims. The stalls flanking the narrow alleys sell almost everything you can imagine. There are even a number of stalls selling parts of aircraft. If you are prepared to bargain you will be amazed at the final prices. A variety of Muslim food and snacks can be tried here, tasty and very cheap, including the locals' favorites, roasted beef, roasted fish, and pancakes. The title "a street for gourmet" is deserved.

Day 4. Travel in Xian (B/L/D)
Accommodation - Xian City Hotel (3 stars)

After breakfast, we drive to Terracotta Warriors. It lies 35 kilometers east of Xian and a site of World Cultural Heritage approved in 1987, is the most important archeological excavations of the 20th century. The museum is divided into three sections: No. 1 Pit, No. 2 Pit, and No. 3 Pit. Altogether over 7000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses and 150 cavalry horses, and even weapons have been unearthed from these pits.

After that, we head to Huaqing Hot Spring. Huaqing Hot Spring also named Huaqing Palace located at the north foot of Lishan Mountain, Lintong District, Xian, roughly 30 kilometers away from downtown Xian. It is a typical ancient resorts palace for its hot springs. The kings and emperors of Zhou, Qin, Han and Tang Dynasties all choose this place as their leisure sites. The building group over here is quite grand and sumptuous. The architectural style belongs to the imperial classical garden with a history over 3,000 years.

And then, we take a visit to Emperor Qinshihuang's Great Mausoleum. The Mausoleum of Emperor Qinshihuang is the tomb of Ying Zheng, the Imperial China’s first Emperor. It boasts the 8th wonder of the world, and belongs in the list of world cultural heritage. Today, it is a key site under the national protection. It is located at the foot of Lishan Mountain, Lintong District, Xian. This is a mausoleum that Ying Zheng ascended the throne at the age of 13. The mausoleum was designed by Li Si, and took 38 years for construction. The core of the mausoleum was not excavated at all.

At night, we enjoy the Dumpling Dinner and Tang Dynasty Show. The Tang Dynasty Dinner Show is a combination of Chinese traditional dumpling banquet and the fabulous Tang Dynasty dance and music. You begin with a dumpling banquet before the show. Dumplings come in various artistic shapes and sizes, all handmade, and filled with different combinations of meat and vegetables. This is a feast for tongue, eyes and ears, and will impress you too much.
