Brief Introduction - Nanjing University(南京大学, Nanking University also), domestically called Nanda for short, is a top prestigious university of China, even in the Asia. The origin of the education can be dated back to the period of Three Kingdoms, when it was named Imperial Academy of Nanjing. In modern history of China, it was operated in the westernized education system, and was officially named Sanjiang Normal Academy in 1902, and then to be National Central University. In 1949, it was named National Nanjing University. It used to be the assembly site of China’s Hsueh-heng School, which was absolutely derived from Neo-Humanism of Irving Babbitt in Harvard University. It was also the headquarters of China Science Society, and the admired academic center of Russell, Tagore and Pearl Buck.
The School Badge - The badge is a shield-shaped style which was designed when it was named National Central University. The bottom left and the bottom right is the English name of Nanjing University. The middle is an iconic image which is the cedar, the municipal tree of Nanjing, to show the firm and indomitable spirit of this university. The middle of the upper part is the artistic calligraphy of Nan Jing, two characters, and on both sides, two pixiu(貔貅) pictures are fixed, both of which are the mythical creatures said to be counteracting the evil forces. Pixiu is the powerful holy guard on the heaven. It has the dragon head, horse body, kylin feet, and looks like a lion from afar. It can fly and feeds on the treasures. In traditional China, Pixiu is an auspicious creature that brings the good luck and fortune to people.
