Suzhou Silk Museum is located in the Beishou Pagoda Scenic Area. It is built for popularizing the silk culture and exhibiting the history and situation of Chinese Silk Industry. The whole museum covers an area of 9410 square meters. The architectural styles and the decorations are typically elegant and refreshing. It as a whole is an artistic building perfectly combining the modern enchantment and traditional beauty. Basically, the theme of the architecture is a historical road of silk. The exhibition halls can be divided into eight sections: preface hall, ancient display hall, silkworm-mulberry site, silkworm village and mulberry forest drafted pavilion, the middle hall, modern pavilion (it is highlighted with an ancient street of Ming and Qing Dynasties) and today’s exhibition hall (jinxiuyuan). The general color of the museum is the white, which reflects the original color of the silk.

In front of the gate, there are three eye-catching marble sculptures respectively themed with the mulberry-picking girl, brocade-washing girl and silk-weaving girl to show the silk is the extension of beauty of woman. The inside decoration of the museum is also quite attractive, and the diverse statues in different aspects of the hall are all created by the famous sculpture masters.

The stone wall of the middle hall is caved four original Chinese characters from the inscriptions carved on bones or tortoise shells from Shang and Zhou Dynasties. Four characters are Can(蚕, Silkworm), Sang(桑, Mulberry), Si(丝, Silk) and Bo(帛, Silk Work), all of which briefly summarize the characteristics of Suzhou Silk Museum. The huge fresco on the left vividly re-shows the evolutional process and the scientific-technological achievements during the ancient development phase of silk. By the way, there was a graceful lady statue wearing the ancient garments close to the fresco. She was said to be the Goddess of Silkworm, named Lei Zu(嫘祖), the wife of Yellow Emperor.
